Hotel Van Onna offers 41 clean and modern rooms, each with private facilities, and some with nice canal views. No elevator or restaurant.Rates double 90. Parkzicht Roemer Visscherstraat 33 (618 19 54). A tranquil little spot close to Vondelpark and the major museums. Large,
lived-in rooms full of character with Dutch sturdy wooden furniture and
dark wood paneling. Most have en-suite facilities. Parkzicht has a few
doubles overlooking the Vondelpark. Rates double 85-95. PC Hooft PC Hooftstraat 63 (662 71 07). Basic hotel near the museums and Vondelpark on Amsterdam's most upscale shopping street. Despite this area being celeb territory, with a fair share of the city's Porsches parked here on any given day and with Chanel and Hermes stores just across the street, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. PC Hooft has a nice sidewalk cafe which makes for good people watching. Rates double 70-80. Prinsenhof Prinsengracht 810 (623 17 72). Prinsenhof is a simple and comfortable hotel in a modernized canal house located between the river Amstel and the Utrechtsestraat. Some of the rooms have a good view of the Prinsengracht canal; not all rooms have a private bathroom. No elevator, but there's an electric hoist to get your luggage up the stairs. Rates double 70-90. Qbic Strawinskylaan 241 (043 321 11 11).
This low cost designer hotel is close to the RAI convention center and the financial district, so a bit of a trek out of city center. Qbic is a 'Pod' hotel, built with modular cube shaped living quarters. These so-called Cubis come well equipped though, with Hδstens bedding, Philippe Starck designed bathrooms and free Wifi. To keep costs low you get self-service check-in, and a Grab & Go corner with vending machines dispensing fresh food and drinks. Excellent value for money.Rates double 69-149. Quentin Leidsekade 89 (626 21 87). Petite, friendly hotel near the Leidseplein, close to all the action but in a relatively quiet canalside location. Rumour has it that Paradiso uses the Quentin to lodge visiting bands, so you might accidentally bump into a famous face or two! Rates single 40-110; double 60-150. |
| Winston Hotel Warmoesstraat 123-129 (623 13 80). This 66-room hotel is on one of the main streets in the Red Light district, so right in city center and a bit noisy at night. Winston has commissioned artists to decorate the interior of the hotel and some of the rooms, so if you prefer something special book an 'art room'. Next door is the popular Winston Kingdom bar, which hosts live music and DJ's.Rates double 80-95. |
