The former headquarters of the Royal Dutch Lloyd have been converted into an innovative hotel, with 120 rooms ranging from 2 to 5-star rating and all different in size and interior styling. To add to the diversity Lloyd not only has two restaurants, but also a recording studio, a 'nomadic library' and a kitchen for those who prefer to cook their own meals. Rates doubles €100-€500 .

Kloveniersburgwal 20 (330 62 41). Excellent little friendly hotel near the Red Light district in a 17th-century canal house on beautiful and relaxed Kloveniersburgwal canal. On offer are six differently styled rooms; Design, Wonders, Rembrandt, Retro, Afrika and Baroque. The larger rooms have canal views, the other rooms overlook the lovely courtyard garden. Breakfast until noon can be a big plus. Rates double €135-235. [no reviews, be the first]

Owl Hotel Roemer Visscherstraat 1 (618 94 84).  Clean and friendly hotel near Vondelpark and the major museums. The Owl has 34 clean and pleasant rooms, each with a bathroom en-suite. The breakfast room has nice views of the garden and the adjoining Vondelpark, and there's an outdoor terrace to enjoy those sunny days. No restaurant, but the hotel does have an elevator.Rates double €130-€155. [29 reviews, avg 9/10] RHO Hotel Nes 11-13 (620 73 71).  Large, comfortable hotel in a quiet little alley just off Dam square. The building was once a theater, and many of the original Art Deco elements have been retained. The former stage has been converted into a reception area and a breakfast lounge, with an incredibly high ceiling. Small but pleasant rooms. Elevator.Rates double €100-€200. Each room is different, but they all have tasteful furnishings, with antiques, art, drapes, and in one case even a fireplace. Breakfast in bed only, no restaurant. No elevator. Rates double €110-€250.

All rooms have original high ceilings and modern en-suite facilities, and Hotel Toren has a beautiful courtyard garden. No restaurant or elevator.Rates double €170-€240.

Beautiful and comfortable hotel in two turn-of-the-century houses near the south end of Vondelpark on a very quiet street, a short walk from the Leidseplein. Bright and spacious rooms with elegant furnishings and decorations. Toro has an attractive terrace and garden overlooking a lake in Vondelpark. Great value for money. Rates double €130-€220.
